New Delhi: Under immense economic pressure after the US ended its waivers to eight countries on Iranian oil exports on May 1, Tehran’s Foreign Minister Javed Zarif has reached New Delhi. Zarif will hold talks with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. His trip comes amid heightened diplomatic tension between Washington and Tehran over the US announcement that no waivers will be extended to countries importing oil from Iran.
It may be noted that China and India are the largest importers of Iranian oil and are among eight countries to which the US had extended waivers for the imports. Three of the countries which received the waivers- Taiwan, Italy and Greece – have already reduced Iranian oil exports to zero.
